  • Mother Earth Radio – The next level

The good old Pro-Ject record player had to be replaced due to problems with the wiring – repair or buy a new one? I wouldn’t have actually bought a new one, but since it’s for Mother Earth, I made the investment. I am now very happy with it, the new Rega player is simply brilliant.
New straightwire cables, a Pro-Ject Record Cleaner (man, I needed that) and the absolute hammer: a DC filter.
If this is new to you, let me just say: you want one. Believe me.
I didn’t go for the Inakustik AC-4500, which is already working in Christian’s High End Audio Lab and which we all know from the amazing recordings on the show, but I’m very happy with the Supra MD-08 MkIII DC filter I got with the other new stuff.
It needs a few weeks to warm up and settle in and be ready to provide Mother Earth with great music (yes, that’s necessary) – and then I’ll start recording classical records – the classical channel needs it the most.

So that’s how we spend our time here on Mother Earth, it’s demanding!
Thank you for joining us, if you like it and have a few marks to spare, please go to the donation page and support our work and time.
    Best regards from Munich,
    Florian

  • Why today’s music is so BORING. The decline of musical innovation – Rick Beato

In his video, Rick Beato names and explains the theoretical reasons why today’s music is so boring.

  • Melody Gardot – “Currency Of Man” was not recorded in 432hz tuning

Melody Gardot – “Currency Of Man” was not recorded in 432hz tuning

I’ve added Melody’s 2015 album “Currency Of Man”.

I read that it was supposedly recorded in 432hz, but that’s not the case. I analyze the mood of the songs for Mother Earth Radio to tune them to 429hz. Currency” is in fact even higher than 440 Hz, as far as I could hear and measure.
What is true, however, is that it was recorded with analog equipment, and you can hear that very clearly. It really is a fantastic recording of a great performance.
A great example of what a joyful experience music can be when you make it this way.

  • Dredg – Catch Without Arms

    Dredg – Catch Without Arms

Latest addition: The epic Dredg album “Catch Without Arms” !

It’s the most expensive record I’ve ever bought – and worth every penny. The acquisition of this gem was made possible by the wonderful platform discogs.com and a clever, tasteful collector in the States (Good catch, CB!!), who bought the record at the time and has now sold it. Mother Earth says thank you!

Catch without arms, the third album from Californian band Dredg, is described as “a change to a simpler and more straightforward style of music for the band”. I think it’s a highly complex, virtuosically played record; great melodies, beautiful harmonies, a very interesting approach to guitar work (like: yes, that was actually the guitar solo?!).

  • Quality of the recordings in the classical stream

Since the switch to 192k, the clicks and pops in our catalog of classic vinyl recordings have become very annoying.
We are able to fix this problem easily, but it will take some time. The Classical Channel has been filled with recordings from my personal collection, and these records are mainly original pressings from the 1930s onwards. (By the way, I have many CDs from the 80s that are no longer playable)
These original vinyls were recorded with my project turntable and an Ortofon needle. We start re-recording them in the High End Audio Lab, washing them with a super expensive and aggressive cleaner and maybe even recording them with the fantastic high-end needle and Linn turntable, depending on the condition of the vinyl. At the top of our list, however, is filling up the main channel, which is pretty empty after the decision to broadcast in 192kHz.

  • Mother Earth Instrumental updated to Ultra-HD

We warmly welcome Mother Earth Instrumental to the 192kHz family!
We’ve upped the stream to 192kHz as the catalog of fresh vinyl recordings coming out of Christian Mayer’s Hi Res Audio Lab begins to grow. There are still some recordings in CD format and 96k files on the instrumental channel, but the proportion of genuine 192k files is now considerably high, so we have switched over. We hope you enjoy it!
Mother Earth Radio has been broadcasting on 96k since February 2020, making it the world’s first free-to-air hi-res audio station. I give JB Radio credit, but couldn’t find the date they went on the air with 96k. If anyone finds this date, please let me know!
